Primary Purpose
Evaluate and provide leadership for the overall Special Education Curriculum and Instruction Department of GBCDHH, including curriculum and staff development for all levels. Facilitate and coordinate activities related to the admission, renewal, and dismissal (ARD) process. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.
Qualifications
Education/Certification/Licensure
Deaf education certification or comparable experience serving a deaf education program, (preferred)
Texas mid-management/principal or other appropriate Texas certification
T-TESS certification (preferred)
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Three years supporting special education instructional staff
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of special education and Americans with Disability Act laws, rules, and regulation to maintain district-wide compliance
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teacher effectiveness as it pertains to teaching students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Ability to manage personnel and coordinate district functions
Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
Strong communication, public relations, team-building and interpersonal skills
Ability to think critically and systematically problem solve
Superior organizational skills and the ability to multi-task with minimal supervision
Ability to adjust to change in a positive manner
Experience
Three years as a teacher of the Deaf/Special Education, (preferred)
Previous campus, district-wide or instructional leadership experience, (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Plan, implement, and evaluate instructional programs (including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques) with teachers, staff, counselors, diagnosticians, and principals of the site campuses for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing K-12.
- Supervise ESY Deaf and Hard of Hearing education summer program.
- Provide consistent support to GBCDHH teachers at all levels.
- Work collaboratively with support staff and director of GBCHDHH to carry out vision and goals of GBCDHH.
- Coordinate with campus testing coordinator regarding deaf education student needs and eligibility.
- Provide effective staff development activities that incorporate the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from teachers and others.
- Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
- Provide for two-way communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community.
- Demonstrate use of appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
- Coordinate campus personnel staffing for students on GBCDHH campuses.
- Coordinate and facilitate ARD meetings on GBCDHH campuses and meet with assessment personnel to maintain compliant special Education eligibility for GBCDHH site students.
- Maintain special education (GBCDHH) student folders, PEIMS information, and required data for indicator 7.
- Manage the referral process from member districts and ECI agencies.
- Adhere to federal, state, and local special education requirements.
- Provide training, on special education software, IEP development, PLAAFP, standards-based goals and objectives, statewide assessment, instruction, and behavior strategies.
- Collaborate with site campuses master scheduler to ensure students’ needs are met per ARD committee decisions.
- Demonstrate the due diligence and effective decision making to keep students emotionally and physically safe.
