Job Title: Early College Program Guidance Counselor (.6)
Location: Sullivan County BOCES, Southern Catskill Region, NY
Job Summary: Sullivan County BOCES is seeking a dedicated Early College Program Guidance Counselor to provide comprehensive counseling services to students in our early college initiative. This role involves acting as a liaison between the college and local school districts, coordinating student registration with participating colleges, supporting recruitment efforts, designing student activities with the college to foster a sense of belonging for students, and addressing the diverse needs of students in a dynamic educational environment. This position will require travel between BOCES, the college, and participating schools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized counseling to students, focusing on their academic, social, and emotional needs.
- Serve as a liaison between the college and multiple school districts, fostering collaborative relationships to support student success.
- Coordinate registration processes with participating colleges to ensure students are enrolled in appropriate courses and programs.
- Work closely with school districts to recruit future students through presentations and one-on-one student visits.
- Respond to daily issues and unanticipated crises during the school day, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
- Coordinate and facilitate student recognition ceremonies, celebrating student achievements and milestones.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration to support the overall mission of Sullivan County BOCES.
Requirements:
- Valid New York State School Counselor Certification.
- Demonstrated understanding of the instructional and social needs of students.
- Ability to design and implement in-school prevention programs based on current best practices.
- Proven ability to manage a regular counseling schedule while effectively triaging crises.
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize multiple competing urgent tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- NYS School Counselor Certification is mandatory.
