Qualifications

 

Education/Certification:    

As required by state certification authorities

Master's degree or higher in school psychology (prefered)

Valid Texas Licensed LSSP (Licensed Specialist in School Psychology)

Valid BCBA Certification in Special education (preferred)

Bilingual (Preferred)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:  

Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, special education rules and regulations, human development in learning theories; demonstrates expertise in assessment and programming for children and young with serious behavioral disorders; and excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.

 

Experience:                           

Two years’ experience providing psychological services in a school aged students (preferred)

 

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable

II. INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT

  • Keep informed about current legislation, educational developments, literature and research in education by participating in state and national professional organizations.
  • Attend and participate in state and national professional organizations; attend appropriate conferences and staff development sessions; disseminate professional information and materials to the schools.
  • Recieve student referrals and implement the psychological evaluation process in a timel manner.
  • Select and administer formal and informal evaluations to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency (TEA) regulations. 
  • Interpret educational/psychological evaluations and other reports to staff and parents.
  • Consult with administrators, parents and school staff and make recommendations.
  • Provide staff development in areas of expertise.
  • Observe students in the classroom to assess instructional, behavioral and emotional needs.
  • Develop/implement functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans for students with behavioral problems.
  • Provide individual, group or family psychological services (counseling).
  • Coordinate and supervise the school psychology internship program.
  • Foster collaborative educational efforts among staff by supporting the district’s philosophy and mission and its commitment to site-based shared decision making.
  • Keep the director/special education coordinators informed regarding the status of all projects or initiatives undertaken and of directives or requests received internally or externally.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the director/special education coordinator.

Tools/Equipment Used:

Standard office euqipment including personal computer and peripherals.

Posture:

Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion:

Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting:

Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to control behaivor

Environment:

Frequent prolonged and irregular hours; frequent districtwide and occasional state or national travel

Mental Demands:

Maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate multiple projects; meet deadlines.
