Description
As part of a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare providers under the leadership of the Medical Director, the staff physician works to achieve organizational goals of Special Health Resources through the delivery of primary care services at a patient-centered environment. The staff physician works in a collaborative effort across all departments to remove barriers for accessing healthcare. The staff physician must incorporate health center policies (including quality assurance) into their clinical practice to provide quality care commensurate with training and licensure. Position also provides oversight of clinical support staff (i.e. Midlevel Practitioners, Medical Assistants and Nursing staff) and handles operational issues on the clinical floor to ensure continuity of services and a smooth patient flow. Delivers care appropriate for an outpatient, primary care community health center with multicultural, multilingual patient population.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires valid driver’s license, appropriate driving record, and auto liability insurance that meets the minimum state requirements.
- Must be in possession of a valid license to practice in the State of Texas.
- MD or DO degree
- Experience in pediatric medicine
- Have thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of medicine and allied services commensurate with his/her training
- Board eligibility in Pediatrics is required; certification is desirable
- DEA certified
- Experience with EHR (electronic health records) preferred
- Ability to relate to culturally diverse patients and community
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

- Must be a dedicated self-starter and have excellent documentation skills
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Abide by all SHR clinical policies to provide quality medical care to all patients in accordance with training and licensure. Performs examination, diagnoses and treats patients 0 to 18 years of age
- Conduct regular thorough examinations on newborns and young children to check and record their health and normal physical development
- Examine sick children to determine their condition and ask intuitive questions to gather information about symptoms
- Reach an informed diagnosis based on scientific knowledge and individual medical history
- Prescribe medications and give detailed instructions for administration
- Prescribe and interpret appropriate lab tests to gain more information for possible infections or abnormalities
- Prepare and administer vaccines according to the governmental vaccination plan
- Examine and treat injuries and refer the patients to physicians of other disciplines when necessary (e.g. surgeons, ophthalmologists, orthopedists etc.)
- Advise parents on children’s diet, exercise, and disease-preventive measures
- Complete medical charts after each visit according to the problem-oriented medical records system
- Keep updated records of patients’ illnesses, surgeries or other medical episodes (allergic shocks, injuries etc.)
- Keep abreast of advancements in pediatrics and best practices by attending seminars and conferences
- Participate in the planning and implementation of new clinical programs as needed
- Work with new technologies for the improvement of patient services and clinic operations
- Work in cooperation with scheduling and administration departments to ensure a final provider schedule is published in a timely manner, three months in advance
- Provide dates and times of potential conflict within the timelines required of all staff in accordance with Personnel Policy and Procedures.
- Attend internal and external meetings, workshops, and conferences, and participates on task forces or committees, as necessary and/or required by the health center
- Perform all duties in support of successful EHR implementation
