Special Kids Special Families (SKSF) is a Colorado 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located in Colorado Springs founded in 1998 to provide respite and specialized care for children and adults with disabilities and special needs. Various programs offer community support services to families and are designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities throughout their life span.
Scope :
The Foster Home Supervisor at Special Kids Special Families (SKSF) will oversee and support foster homes within the organization’s Child Placement Program. This role ensures compliance with Colorado state regulations, provides guidance and supervision to foster parents, and works collaboratively with internal teams to maintain a safe and nurturing environment for children and youth in foster care.
Key Responsibilities :
Supervision and Support :
- Provide ongoing supervision and support to foster parents, ensuring a high standard of care for children in their homes.
- Conduct regular home visits and provide direct feedback to foster families.
- Serve as a point of contact for crisis, offering immediate support and intervention, including additional paid after-hours and on-call duties.
Compliance and Documentation :
Ensure foster homes comply with all state licensing regulations and SKSF policies.Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation for foster home files, including training records, compliance forms, and home studies.Participate in licensing and re-licensing processes for foster families.Training and Development :
Facilitate and coordinate training sessions for foster parents, ensuring they are equipped to meet the needs of children placed in their care.Conduct orientations for new foster families to familiarize them with SKSF processes and expectations.Identify and address areas for improvement in foster homes, providing coaching and development opportunities.Collaboration :
Work closely with case managers, therapists, and other team members to create individualized care plans for foster children.Collaborate with external stakeholders, including schools, healthcare providers, and child welfare agencies, to ensure comprehensive support for children and families.Team Collaboration :
Attend weekly staff meetings to provide updates and discuss case progress.Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to promote the best outcomes for foster children and families.On-Call and After-Hours Duties :
Be available to respond to emergencies during evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.Provide timely support and crisis intervention to foster families outside of regular working hours.Ensure proper follow-up and documentation for any after-hours incidents.Evaluation and Reporting :
Monitor the progress and well-being of children in foster homes, addressing any concerns promptly.Prepare regular reports on the performance and status of foster homes for internal review.Participate in agency meetings and contribute to program evaluation and improvement initiatives.Requirements : Qualifications :
Required :
Bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Services, or a related field (master’s preferred).CPR, First Aid, and Universal Precautions certifications (required within 30 days of hire).Physical examination completed within the past two years (per Colorado licensing requirements).Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.Valid Colorado driver’s license, reliable transportation for in-state travel current vehicle insurance, and an acceptable driving record per SKSF standardsPreferred Skills and Attributes :
Familiarity with trauma-informed care principles.Experience training and supervising foster parents.A commitment to the mission and values of Special Kids Special Families, including a passion for advocating for children with special needs and their families.Experience working in foster care, child welfare, or a related field.Strong organizational, communication, and crisis management skills.Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
