The Manhattan Childrens Center utilizes the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to provide scientifically-based, world-class treatment and education to children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

ABA Instructor

The role of ABA instructor is typically for individuals with some experience working with children with autism or other disabilities and using applied behavior analysis. Positions are available in several different classrooms with a variety of student ages and abilities.

Requirements include:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Energetic, can-do attitude and a willingness to collaborate with teachers, related service providers, parents, and other faculty

Responsibilities include:

  • Direct teaching of skills to students and data collection on student responding
  • Daily graphing and analysis of data and monitoring of student learning trends
  • Maintaining and promoting generalization of learned skills
  • Following students' behavior intervention plans and reporting all observations of student behavior to the teacher
  • Providing feedback and data to the teacher regarding social skills opportunities and parent concerns
  • Preparing and organizing teaching materials and teaching settings daily
  • Completing other classroom duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher
  • Possible a 2:1 model with individual and group based instruction and inclusion opportunities for students

Physical and Environmental Demands include:

  • Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses
  • Exposure to students with a variety of problem behaviors that can include (but are not limited to) biting, hitting, kicking, throwing objects/furniture, hair pulling, scratching and other behaviors that may result in injury to others
  • Walking, bending, standing, stooping, and possible physical interventions in order to maintain a safe learning environment
  • Ability to physically move students or equipment, position students in specialized equipment, and/or change diapers or other personalized sanitary items as needed
  • Must be able to assume a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crouching, sitting, standing, etc.) in the course of working with children with developmental disabilities and behavior problems
  • Must be able to engage in crisis management holds/transport of students in the course of behavioral management
  • Must be able to work in a highly stressful environment while maintaining a calm demeanor throughout daily interactions with students, staff, parents, and visitors
  • Must demonstrate technological competencies to independently conduct remote learning sessions (i.e., Zoom, Google Slides, and other online learning platforms)'

Pay: $40,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
