Salary Range for US Based Staff: $55,463 - $65,250

Position Overview:

 

SOI’s Health strategy is directed towards promoting equity and reducing health disparities for people with IDD around the world through four strategic activities:

 

  • Preventive care services, including early intervention for those under 8 years of age, fitness programs and public health promotion activities.
  • Assessment services, directed at preventive health screenings and early detection of the most common conditions for people with IDD, and developing person centered care coordination and connections to reduce those conditions.
  • Training services, to engage the health care workforce using evidence-based learning activities that employ virtual and hands-on interactions to improve quality of care.
  • Promoting health systems reform through partnerships with providers and government organizations and promoting strong self-advocacy.

 

This position will contribute to work to make health-related services, programming, and policies more inclusive of people with IDD and promote the leadership of people with IDD.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Inclusive Health, the Manager will be an important asset in promoting inclusive health in the United States and other parts of North America.

 

This role will be expected to be primarily in-person, at SOI’s headquarters office in Washington, DC.

 

As part of a global team based in Central European Time, Central African Time, and Eastern Time zones, the incumbent should be prepared to be available for calls at 8am US Eastern Time an average of twice per week.

 

 

Responsibilities:

Project Manage Systems Change in Inclusive Health Subgrants (25%)

  • Develop and execute subgrant cycle timeline; make any needed updates to subgrant materials.
  • Coordinate and participate in subgrantee selection.
  • Manage administrative aspects of subgrants, including grant management system and financial and narrative reporting.
  • Organize and host annual subgrantee calls: RFP Q&A, kick-off call, and mid-year 1:1 check-ins.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for subgrantees in a project officer role (e.g., providing technical assistance on grant management system, verifying progress against project plan, gathering success stories, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements).
  • Participate in monthly meeting with Health Grants Team to coordinate application and reporting timeline and process.
  • Engage (or re-engage) past subgrantees on an ongoing basis.

 

Manage the Center for Inclusive Health (30%)

  • Implement the Center for Inclusive Health workplan, including resource development and regularly publishing newsletters for the Center listserv.
  • Conduct internet searches to identify and propose resources to load to the Center site.
  • Coordinate/participate in deliverables-related engagement of Center-related consultants and contractors.
  • Coordinate with Health Communications Team on social media posts related to the growth of Center viewership.

 

Support to US-based projects (30%)

  • Support planning and logistics of the Inclusive Nutrition Initiative, including recruitment, event planning, and financial aid implementation.
  • Review monthly, mid-year, and final reports from Special Olympics Programs to analyze progress against metrics and identify support and resource needs related to inclusive health, health systems strengthening, and Health Messenger training.
  • Respond to identified support and resources needs through the development of plans, processes, resources, and partnerships.
  • Respond to questions from HQ, regional, national, or state-chapter staff related to inclusive health, health systems strengthening, and Health Messenger areas of work.
  • Support the compilation of reports, presentations, and proposals related to inclusive health.
  • Coordinate events such as workshops, trainings, webinars, and summits, including planning, participant engagement, agenda development, execution, and evaluation.

 

Athlete engagement (15%)

  • Manage requests for activation of Health Messengers (Special Olympics athletes who have been trained to serve as a health and wellness leader, educator, advocate and role model) in the Special Olympics North America region, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Support Special Olympics North America-hosted US national Health Messenger trainings.
  • Support the preparation of Health Messengers for participation in high-profile roles.
  • Support tracking of Health Messenger data and activations.

 

 

Qualifications:

Required

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience plus Three to Five years of relevant work experience. Experience and/or coursework in the area of Public Health, Health Sciences, Public Policy/Public Administration is a plus.

  • Interest in and commitment to working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Strong writing and communications experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to nurture relationships and partnerships with individuals and organizations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including ability to communicate effectively with a culturally and professionally diverse range of stakeholders
  • Strong team player and collaborator with acute attention to detail and excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Ability to work effectively both in-person and remotely as a member of a collaborative global team, including ability and willingness to be available for calls at 8am US Eastern Time an average of twice per week
  • Experience with Smartsheet or Brightspot platforms, or willingness to learn!
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer

 

Preferred

  • Sound understanding of/experience working in/with the US health system (e.g., community health centers, private providers, legislative or executive bodies relating to health care policy, NGOs providing health or health-related services)
  • Relevant post-university degree
  • Experience and comfort with working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Ability to travel internationally, if required
  • Expertise or experience related to Canada or the Caribbean a plus
