Position: Director, Development- Central Florida (Area 6)

Department: Development

Supervisor: Senior Development Director


Purpose:

Reporting to the Senior Development Director, the Development Director supports development initiatives in the Central Region and is responsible for overseeing regional peer-to-peer events. This includes securing corporate sponsors and fundraising teams, overall event strategy and execution, event logistics, budget management, alignment with the marketing team for event creative, and providing overall strategy to streamline and maximize revenue potential. Responsible for meeting annual revenue goals.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 years’ fundraising and special events experience preferably in a large organization
  • 5 years’ experience recruiting and managing volunteer committees to succeed and reach desired outcomes
  • Experience in managing special events and budgets
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and capacity to collaborate with the executive team.
  • Success in leading cultivation, stewardship, and renewal strategies for donors and event sponsors
  • Exceptional project management skills with adherence to timelines and strong attention to detail.
  • History of effective multi-tasking, expectation setting and escalation of issues where appropriate
  • Demonstrable problem-solving skills; strategic and creative thinking
  • Track record of demonstrating customer service and organizational leadership
  • Must be able to travel as needed throughout the region with occasional state-wide travel
  • Must possess valid US driver’s license and good driving record

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with and/or passion for Special Olympics’ mission
  • Proficiency with Blackbaud communication and fundraising platforms
  • Preferred peer-to-peer fundraising experience or equivalent sales background
  • Confident, goal-oriented, positive self-starter able to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Demonstrated ability to form and develop corporate relationships and partnerships
  • Strong communicator (written and verbal), with the ability to develop and deliver compelling presentations to corporate sponsors and donors
  • Proven organizational, analytical, problem-solving and project management skills
  • Must reside in the Greater Orlando area
  • Proficient in MS Office Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent contacts in the not-for-profit environment, corporations and community highly preferred

Responsibilities:

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for established revenue goals
  • Drive revenue growth through the delivery of Orlando Polar Plunge and Orlando Race for Inclusion
  • Oversee event budgets, maximizing revenue while managing expenses
  • Responsible for recruitment, training, and coaching of volunteer committees and corporate leaders
  • Responsible for overall Orlando Polar Plunge/Orlando Race for Inclusion volunteer committee development, team recruitment and retention strategies, budget, timeline, and logistics
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications team to create and support event marketing plan
  • Through volunteer networks, prospect, cultivate, and steward Orlando Polar Plunge/ Orlando Race for Inclusion teams and sponsors
  • Execute a plan for maximizing team participation to achieve revenue goals by retaining existing teams, attracting new ones from all sectors of the community, and by providing fundraising guidance and support
  • Maintain year-round relationships with key corporate sponsors and constituents to ensure involvement in all relevant regional activities and recognition opportunities
  • Collaborate with Community Engagement Manager to engage corporate sponsors in volunteer opportunities and participate in opportunities to promote events throughout the community
  • Support other Central Region fundraising initiatives including but not limited to: Publix Torch Campaign, corporate partner stewardship, Law Enforcement Torch Campaign, grants, Publix Bowl-a-Thons
  • Other duties as assigned

Special Requirements:

Must be able to travel and complete weekend and evening duties as assigned

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
