POSITION TYPE: This contract position is indefinite and subject to review periodically

DESCRIPTION:

The Grant Writer is responsible for identifying, researching, and writing compelling grant proposals to secure funding from private foundations, corporations, and government entities. This role will also manage grant reporting and ensure compliance with funding requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and passionate about advancing opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The most qualified candidate will be a detail oriented, well-organized professional who is able to demonstrate leadership with a collaborative and results-oriented approach. Most importantly, the ideal candidate will be able to work efficiently on multiple teams, demonstrate flexibility in a changing environment, work positively in an environment of diverse individuals, and have a good sense of humor.

Grant Research & Strategy:

  • Research potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources.
  • Develop a strategic grant calendar to track application deadlines and reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with leadership and program staff to identify funding needs and align grant proposals with Special Olympics Idaho’s mission and programs.

Grant Writing & Submission:

  • Write, edit, and submit high-quality grant proposals and letters of inquiry.
  • Develop compelling narratives that highlight the impact of Special Olympics Idaho’s programs.
  • Ensure proposals meet all funder guidelines, including budgets and required attachments.
  • Maintain accurate records of submitted proposals, pending requests, and funding outcomes.

Grant Management & Reporting:

  • Track grant awards, deliverables, and reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare and submit grant reports, ensuring compliance with funder expectations.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather data and success stories for reporting.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work with the Development Director, CEO, and program staff to ensure grant applications align with organizational goals.
  • Maintain strong relationships with funding agencies and foundation representatives.
  • Support additional fundraising efforts as needed, including donor stewardship and corporate sponsorships.

This position requires specific skills to be successful and to complement our existing team, including, but not limited to:

§ A passion for the Special Olympics mission.

§ Experience as a Grant Writer or comparable field.

§ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write persuasively and strong presentation skills.

§ Strong organizational/priority management skills, including excellent attention to detail.

§ Computer proficiency skills (including Microsoft Office) and ability to use multiple platforms database systems, social media sites, and online communication services.

We offer an inclusive and casual work environment. This position is primarily remote, with occasional in-office collaboration and fieldwork as needed.
