SPECIAL OLYMPICS NEW JERSEY, INC.
Position: CAMP COORDINATOR, seasonal (July-August), part-time
Location: SONJ SPORTS COMPLEX LOCATION (Day & Twilight)
- Primary point-of-contact for camp while in-session and responsible for its execution and management on-site
- Co-lead pre-camp leadership training for counselors
- Plan and lead counselors in daily pre-camp meetings and serve as mentor for their growth as inclusive-minded students and young professionals
- Assign counselor roles for daily equipment, set up, breakdown and any additional needs
- Track notes on counselors throughout the weeks and athletes when necessary (request for 1:1, asked to leave, out-of-character situations)
- Assist with the planning and implementation of camp, maintaining a smooth camp schedule and ensuring athletes’ experiences are maximized
- Work with other staff, counselor and volunteers to provide instructional, safe and fun camp
- Oversee day-of camp prep and clean up each day
- Other duties as assigned
- College degree
- Strong people management skills in a community programming or school setting; sports background helpful but not required; camp operations strongly preferred but not required
- Knowledge and experience working with individuals with disabilities in a supervised environment; Special Olympics experience strongly preferred
- Must take initiative and have a strong work ethic
- Experience with conflict resolution and ability to exhibit emotional maturity with fellow staff, volunteers, athletes and families
- Practical organization with verbal and written communication skills (compose professional and grammatically-sound emails, comfort and professionalism speaking on the phone, basic data management abilities on Excel)
- Possess strong leadership skills; experience in supervising and training others preferred
- Be in good health, ability to work outdoors during summer
