Position Description
The One Utah Service Fellowship (OUSF) is an AmeriCorps program that provides opportunities for young adults to participate in sustainable and high-impact service to address the critical priorities and needs in Utah while supporting debt-free pathways to higher education.
Special Olympics Utah provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship. The OUSF Fellow will play a large role in engaging individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through fitness clubs and activities as well as supporting the Health Program Manager and Clinical Directors in the delivery of free health screenings across Utah and the Navajo Nation.
Job Summary:
- This position is 28 per week for 6 months
- Minimum of 675 hours
Other responsibilities include:
- Developing partnerships with community groups and organizations
- Developing or expanding volunteer program
- Recruiting, managing, and or training volunteers
- Connecting clients to community resources that address needs identified by
participants themselves or staff members
- Community Engagement Support
Qualifications
Eligibility Requirements:
Be 17 years of age or older
Have a high school diploma or GED
Pass State & Federal background checks
Be a U.S. Citizen, National, or Legal Permanent Resident
Member Benefits and Responsibilities
Member benefits and details:
- Fellow will receive a living allowance of $15/hour (total living allowance = $10,125) while serving
- Upon completion, successful fellows earn an education award of $2,817.14, which can be used for education costs up to cost of attendance or for eligible student loan repayment
- Fellows may qualify for loan deferment and interest forbearance on federally- guaranteed student loans, with potential interest repayment while serving
- Access to Member Assistance Program: Includes free telephonic mental health counseling, professional assessments, webinars, and exclusive discounts
