Job Description: Freight Sales Manager – Charleston, SC based with direct oversight and responsibility of Charleston Terminal Operations
Salaried, Base starting pay $80k with additional performance pay/sales commission, and normal Benefits package.
On-Site position with local/regional travel.
This role is designed for a high-performing sales professional with strong operational experience.
This position will develop and support Domestic and Import/Export Sales in the Charleston area, and on the East coast of the US (possibly inclusive SAV & ILM Ocean Import/Export coverage).
‘Sales-wise’ this is a direct report to the VP Customer Solutions, and operationally the team will report into the Company COO.
The position has an in-place experienced Operations Manager and office/warehouse as direct reports.
The role is designed for a high-performing sales professional who excels in a focused, individual contributor capacity, with a direct responsibility for driving sales and expanding our footprint in the last mile and linehaul markets.
You will effectively communicate the value proposition of the Special Service Freight (and its partners) services, identify customer needs, and provide appropriate solutions. You require a deep industry knowledge, a robust network of potential clients, and a proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets through strategic selling.
Responsibilities
- Drive and exceed revenue and market share in defined target accounts/region.
Develop and execute on account strategies in partnership with the Corporate business development team.
- Establish long term strategic senior and operational level relationships with customers.
- Identify key decision makers and ‘influencers’ within the account, with the aim of establishing and maintaining close relationships with these stakeholders.
- Consistent focus on competitive market and competitor intelligence.
- Manage customer perceptions and the overall customer relationship process.
- Consistently identify potential new opportunities and/or solutions with existing or new customers based on deep understanding of needs
- Participate in proposal creation, and influence competitive cost targets, trade-offs, and business cases.
- Collaborate with colleagues (the Corporate leadership and Station Managers) to develop new services and geographic areas for customers.
- Foster, promote and facilitate cross-selling of Special Service (and partners) wide services and capabilities.
- Developing new markets as Special Service expands.
- Identify new and leverage existing external partnerships to augment current capabilities and to enhance value proposition and market competitiveness.
- Acts as the customer advocate to ensure that the organization remains customer-focused.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Provide high value industry knowledge and consulting to customers on Special Service Domestic Ground, Warehousing, Air and Ocean services.
- Specifically build Special Service’s image as a trusted service provider advisor and promote our value proposition.
- Knowledge and experience in consultative selling to Freight Forwarders and 3/4PL’s.
- Understand the competitive landscape and market trends.
- Extremely strong communication, interpersonal, relationship management and professional sales skills.
- Strong reporting skills as well as time and priority management skills.
- Strong strategic planning and execution skills.
- Strong team management skills and high level of ability to work with others as part of a cross-functional team.
· Competent with Microsoft Office Suite.
· Desire to own projects and exceed expectations, with ability to find solutions and deliver results within a rapidly changing, entrepreneurial, technology-driven culture
- Self-starter who has demonstrated the ability to own, define, develop and execute a sales plan and consistently deliver on quarterly revenue targets.
- Travel - domestic as required, with attendance at designated tradeshows where beneficial to the sales and prospecting process.
