PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Behavior Coach is a professional support position. The Behavior Coach will collaborate with educators to develop, model and train behavioral interventions for students with disabilities. The Coach reports to the District Behavior Specialist and works closely with all TISD administrators.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsement of Elementary Generalist and Special Education

Experience:

Three years classroom instruction experience with mentor and peer coaching experience

Special Knowledge and Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and legal documents. 

Ability to effectively present information to administration, campus groups and special services.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Demonstrates a strong foundation in Applied Behavior Analysis.
  2. Participates in the process and interpretation of Functional Behavior Assessment.
  3. Designs and implements multi-faceted behavior interventions.
  4. Understands the behavioral characteristics typically associated with Autism, Behavior Disorders, Traumatic Brain Injury and Intellectual Disabilities, etc.
  5. Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with parents and professionals.
  6. Understands and works with the various support systems available in the community.
  7. Understands Special Education regulations including the Least Restrictive Behavior Intervention policy.
  8. Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle emotionally charged situations.
  9. Ability to develop, model and train others to apply effective and research based behavior management techniques.
  10. Possesses a basic understanding of educational curriculum and instructional methods.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

  1. Participate in the district staff development program.
  2. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  3. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  4. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and district policies for classroom teachers.
  5. Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.  The noise level in the environment is moderate.

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. 
  • Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

Pay Grade:  60

Reports to:  Executive Director of Special Services

Days:  191

Salary : $61,000
