Job Goals:
The primary goals of the Specialized Social Worker Assistant is to work in tandem with the Special Education School Social Worker to support students with complex behavior and/or emotional needs.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or enrolled in a BSW program
Certification: BSW license or Limited License, or working to obtain licensure
Work Experience:
Previous work experience working with children with behavioral and emotional challenges. School experience is preferred.

- Ability to develop group activities, assist and/or facilitate social skills groups.
- Ability to provide support to students with challenging and complex behavior.

- Ability to debrief and problem solve difficult situations with students and staff, as appropriate.
- Ability to assist in the development and implementation of functional behavior assessment, positive behavior support plans, and data collection systems.
- Ability to provide resources and referrals for students and families.
- General professional skills, including a willingness to:

- Assume positive intentions when working with others.
- Adhere to federal, state and VBISD policies and procedures.
- Model VBISD guidelines: Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence.
- Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon timelines.
- Perform additional tasks, responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and the Superintendent.
Essential Job Functions:
- Valid Driver's License required
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods as needed for student activities.
- Ability to drive to different locations during the school day.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
