Position: Entry Level Machinist - Swing Shift
Reports to: Machine Shop Manager
Location: Newberg, OR

JOB SUMMARY
Performs as Machinist by being responsible for quality of work performed at Climax and by completing on-the-job training and/or course work that may be offered by internal/external resources. Assists in all aspects of the cell operations. Pulls work orders, selects raw materials, assists machinists with setups and other operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Read and follow daily work schedule and prioritize work.
  • Gathers all documentation needed to perform the job. Verifies that the revision levels are current and match. Enters accurate work order data into the computer.
  • Pulls and prepares raw material to be ready for next job.
  • Performs light assembly, inventory stocking of items used in secondary operations, and coolant maintenance as necessary.
  • As directed, gathers, parts, tooling, fixtures or gages to ensure machinists and assemblers are prepared for the next job.
  • Assist with expediting orders to meet required ship dates.
  • Returns tooling, fixtures or gages to tool crib.
  • Gathers parts as needed to assist machine tool builder.
  • Performs mechanical inspection to verify parts meet engineering specifications (cell inspect).
  • Cleans and deburrs parts and verifies conformance of the finished work-piece to specifications and workmanship standards.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on various machine shop tools.
  • On a daily basis, cleans work benches, checks rags, cleans saw – hone - presses- keyseater - etc, returns stock to home locations, returns work orders at the end of shift, maintains organization of raw stock, maintains general housekeeping of work area.
  • Provides assistance with shop projects as instructed.
  • Cleans and deburrs the material as needed to remove sharp edges and allow for placement in vises or fixtures.
  • Operates drill presses, saws, broaching and honing machines, hydraulic presses, sandblaster, key seater, etc. to perform secondary operations.
  • Handles stress in a professional manner, demonstrates the ability to get along with others, demonstrates successful attendance and punctuality, and works overtime / extra hours as required to meet business needs.
  • May travel occasionally, primarily in the local area.
  • Other duties as required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED);

The employee is regularly required to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds (assistance available), and regularly required to operate and maneuver heavy components with material handling devices. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Office and travel have moderate noise levels. Machine/Product demonstrations and customer visits can have loud noise levels.
To meet customer requirements, the employee may be asked to travel in an airplane and/or vehicle to get to customer work sites. At times, this position walks on or through high elevations, underground and/or confined spaces, around high voltage and in heavy industrial and/or construction work environments such as bridges, dams, mines, power plants, shipyards, etc. The employee must be able to work in hazardous working environments with possible extreme working conditions to complete customer training and/or applications support.
Noise levels may be extreme and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided. Usage may be driven by customer requirements. Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, steel toe boots, hardhat and safety glasses, hearing protection. Customer site working environments can be extreme in regard to height, confined spaces, ambient temperature, physical requirements and hazards.
