Job Overview
We are seeking to train new medical billers and coders. The position is not paid and is an externship on the way to being certified or newly certified to gain valuable experience. The training program will last about 6-12 weeks to learn all aspects of billing, coding and revenue cycle. Based on performance may earn a full time position.
Duties
- Review and process patient information and medical records for accurate billing.
- Utilize medical coding systems including ICD-10, ICD-9, and DRG to ensure proper coding of diagnoses and procedures.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and follow up on outstanding claims to ensure timely payment.
- Handle medical collections by communicating with patients regarding their accounts and resolving any discrepancies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical billing regulations and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in patient records or billing issues.
- Assist in the management of electronic health record (EHR) systems to ensure accuracy in patient data.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office setting with a focus on medical billing or coding.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and familiarity with medical records management.
- Proficient knowledge of billing systems and software used in the healthcare industry.
- Experience with ICD-10, ICD-9 coding, DRG, and other relevant coding practices is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare staff.
- Proficient in handling sensitive information with confidentiality.
- Certification in Medical Billing or Coding is a plus but not required.
