All employees who work directly with residents must be trained and certified in the Mandt System, and recertify each year. If an employee does not recertify before their certification expires, they MAY NOT work until recertification is completed.
Mandt System trained employees should initiate a physical restraint when a resident is a danger to self or others. When applying a physical restraint according to Mandt training:
- the resident must show the threat of harm to be real or believable,
- they are capable of carrying out that threat of harm,
- and the threat of harm is immediate.
If at any time those three components exist together, a physical restraint should be used. If any one of those three components are absent and there is no clear and present danger, then alternative ways to de-escalate the situation should be used.
