About Us:
At Specialized Treatment Services, we provide outpatient services for persons struggling with issues related to opiate use. We provide substance use counseling, mental health therapy, medications, and medical services to assist people achieve their goals in recovery. Our model is built on individualized care and tailored to meet the goals of the person served. We are currently expanding services and seeking to add several Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors/ADC-Ts at our St. Paul location.
Our model offers long-term client connection in a pleasant multidisciplinary clinical setting. We provide the opportunity for MH supervision for LADCs/ADC-Ts who are interns or who are working towards their LPCC or LICSW. We offer early am hours M-F and predominantly 1:1 counseling with some opportunity for group work.
SUMMARY OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
At STS, the role of the Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor is to offer guidance and education to help individuals overcome their challenges with substance use issues and begin the recovery process. Training will be provided to help clinicians understand the role and effects of medications and their impact on recovery. We use methadone and buprenorphine, in conjunction with counseling, to improve the outcomes of those we serve. The treatment counselor is responsible for assessing each individual’s needs, strengths, abilities, and preferences as they relate to the recovery process, assisting with planning that supports recovery, and providing ongoing support of the patient’s evolving needs.
Salary: $54,000 - 60,000

Job Hours:
5:30 am - 2:00 pm M-F
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provides individual, group, and/or family counseling in a manner that respects each person’s individual characteristics, needs, and preferences.
- Completes comprehensive assessment and assessment summary to build the individual treatment plan that demonstrate patient input, goals specific to the individual, and objectives that are based on the individual’s strengths, abilities, needs, and preferences.
- Recognize symptoms related to opioid use, withdrawal, and sedation and work with medical team to assess and address any identified issues.
- Delivers services in a way that are free from blaming, shaming, or punitive responses to behaviors associated with drug use.
- Demonstrates knowledge of co-occurring mental health disorders and provides appropriate interventions and/or referrals to address the symptoms in a manner that aids and supports the person’s recovery process.
- Utilizes multiple external recovery resources through inclusion in individual treatment plans.
- Provides culturally competent treatment through an awareness of one’s own personal biases and how they impact interactions with patients and fellow employees, through a knowledge of the cultural characteristics and context of the patient, and through demonstrating counseling skills that reflect an awareness of one’s own biases and a knowledge of the patient’s cultural background and characteristics.
- Interacts with persons served, fellow employees, and visitors to the clinic in a manner that is respectful at all times.
- Serves as an advocate for all individuals receiving services within the organization and outside the organization by supporting the rights of individuals and communicating information to all involved parties in a manner that reduces the stigma of addiction and mental disabilities and increases awareness of the individual uniqueness of each patient.
- Provides care coordination and management by recognizing the multiple needs of the patient and facilitating the use of multiple resources in supporting recovery.
- Maintains the client record by meeting all timelines for timely record entries and treatment record requirements.
- Adheres to all State, Federal and program regulations and procedures regarding methadone/buprenorphine treatment, and immediately utilizes the corporate compliance system to report any knowledge of non-compliance with regulations.
- Performs all job duties within the health and safety guidelines of the organization.
