Job description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quality Assurance Manager to join our fabrication shop team. The Quality Assurance Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all products meet the highest quality standards and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quality management, fabrication, and welding. The Quality Assurance Manager directs the activities of employees engaged in Quality. They set priorities, monitor workflow, and address quality issues as they arise. The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for setting quality employees’ priorities based on workload. They have meetings weekly with Company Managers and the President to review schedule and performance levels. The Quality Assurance Manager maintains the quality assurance programs operated within the company which include ASME, AISC and NQA-1 manuals. This position requires you to have welding knowledge as well as working knowledge of ASME, AWS, AISC and ISO requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in welding labor hour estimates for bids and track costs compared to estimates.
- Continue to develop, execute, and successfully maintain the plant’s quality system and all applicable quality certifications.
- Monitoring and Maintenance of the ASME, NQA-1 and AISC Commercial Manuals and procedures.
- Monitor the execution of welding work to ensure it complies with the applicable codes, standards, and specific job requirements.

- Perform Internal Audits of the Commercial program at scheduled intervals, but Annually at a minimum.
- Work with fellow department staff members (Operations, Maintenance, Materials, Safety, etc.) to ensure compliance with procedures and audit established procedures internally and externally.
- Customer and regulator point of contact for external surveillance and audits.
- Perform Management Reviews.
- Write WPS and WPQR’s for the welding program.
- Ensure Welding Specification Procedures (WPS) are current and in place for projects, as applicable per job.
- Maintain Welder Continuity.
- Review and approval of inspector reports prior to issuance to the customer.
- Perform CAR investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Evaluation of NCR’s to determine the causes and proper dispositions.
- Final authority on all matters pertaining to Quality Assurance.
- Review of travelers prior to release to the floor for proper welding procedures, and required inspection hold points.
- Closure of travelers once completed on the floor.
- Data package creation for completed projects requiring doc packages to be submitted to the customer.
- Perform Annual eye evaluations for inspectors.
- Assist in the selection of welders and train, develop, & mentor welding staff in safe and proper parts fabrication and in sound hand welding techniques.
- Perform Vendor Audits and maintain an "approved vendor list.
Required skills qualifications:
- A current American Welding Society (AWS) CWI certification. Sr. CWI preferred.
- 5 years in heavy steel fabrication and welding inspection or quality analysis
- Knowledge of AISC standards and 2 years’ experience working in an AISC certified fabrication facility strongly preferred.
- Experience with AISC quality systems
- Level II MT, and VT certifications
- Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is preferred.
- Excellent documentation, organization, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Must be team-oriented and have strong people skills.
- Strong influencing skills to build an effective Quality Culture
- Proficient in welding and/or manufacturing procedures and qualifications
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner
- Well versed in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm and a sense of urgency
- A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal
- Experience with Root Cause, Apparent Cause and Direct Causal analysis
- Auditing experience/Training
- API knowledge is a plus
Physical Requirements / Working Environment:
- This is a full-time position. Monday – Friday, Scheduled and unscheduled overtime is occasionally required.
- Working environment is often hot / humid temperatures and may include exposure to hazardous chemicals, heavy moving equipment, and other hazards/risks. Ideal candidates must be safety conscious.
- The ability to stand for long periods of time is required for this position.

- There may be a potential need for travel, locally and extended distances.
