The Position:
As a PICC Registered Nurse with SpecialtyCare, you will be responsible for inserting PICC lines, rounds on all patients, dressing changes on central lines and proper documentation/charting for patients with central access. You will be responsible for ensuring all proper protocol and standards are followed to reduce the risk of infection. You will also be responsible for educating patients and other staff members regarding central line care and maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties
- Insert PICC lines, rounds on all patients with central access, and performs dressing changes on central IV lines.
- Assess the need for central line access to be continued and make suggestions for alternate IV access.
- Evaluate "difficult" stick patients for PICC or other access. Data collection on central lines sites, etc. is also a job function. Will perform difficult IV sticks and PICC insertions as needed.
- Perform PICC line service using established organizational policies, procedures, practice guidelines, and/or standardized written protocols/orders.
- Document all procedures to patients in patient’s chart, on face sheets and processes face sheets in accordance with established procedures to ensure accurate accounting.
- Share on-call responsibilities with the rest of the team as directed by team leader.
- Incorporate ethical principles as the foundation for decision making. Acts as a patient advocate; maintains patient confidentiality, safety, and security; and respects, promotes, preserves human autonomy, dignity, rights, and diversity.
General Duties
- Reads understand and implement all policies and procedure guidelines. Collect and report quality improvement data as required.
- Ensure that all required documentation is done according to protocol established by the customer and the Company.
- Notify appropriate person(s)/department(s) when problems develop with equipment and/or personnel as established the Company’s protocols and policies.
- Present in-services for customers as requested or needed. Attend meetings as required.
- Ensure that equipment is cleaned and functioning safely for the next case and preventative maintenance is scheduled and completed according to schedule and appropriately disposes of all refuse.
- Ensures that supplies are ordered, stocked and available as needed.
- Establish and maintains procedures to communicate and document potential or real equipment problems to all members of the team.
- Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of Quality Development programs in assigned hospitals.
- May administer medications only as directed and approved by physician.
- Perform other duties and works on special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Nursing Degree along with a PICC Line certification from an accredited PICC Line education/certification program (i.e. Infusion Nurse Specialist (Certified Registered Nurse Infusion) {CRNI}).
- Licensed to practice in the state of Florida or compact state.
- Minimum 1 year experience as a CRNI. Additional levels of experience as a CRNI may vary by position based on clinical and operational needs.
