What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Engineer position at Specified Technologies, Inc. - STI Firestop?
DUTIES:
- Conduct quality inspections and audits of raw materials, in-process production, and finished products.
- Monitor manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
- Provide external audits as needed.
- Investigate product non-conformances and customer complaints.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain and update quality documentation, including control plans, inspection records, and quality manuals.
- Prepare quality reports and metrics for management review.
- Monitor and analyze quality performance metrics and trends to identify areas of improvement.
- Participate in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to optimize processes and reduce waste.
- Identify opportunities for quality improvements and implement effective solutions.
- Ensure adherence to relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485) and regulatory requirements.
- Support external audits and customer inspections.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, R&D, and supply chain, to address quality challenges.
- Train employees in quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Be able to coach/provide direction to QC inspectors.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of experience in quality engineering in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies (e.g., FMEA, SPC, GD&T).
- Familiarity with inspection tools and equipment (e.g., calipers, CMM, micrometers).
- Be able to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Experience with quality management systems (QMS) and ERP software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma Green Belt.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
