Maintenance Mechanic
The Manufacturing Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of manufacturing equipment and machinery through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and system upgrades. This role ensures minimal downtime and optimal productivity by maintaining, repairing, and improving equipment such as conveyors, assembly lines, and other manufacturing systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
DUTIES:
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on production machinery, equipment, and systems to minimize downtime and extend service life.
- Schedule and execute regular maintenance tasks, including lubrication, adjustments, alignment, and component replacements.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work, including inspections, repairs, and part replacements.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues with manufacturing equipment.
- Identify root causes of equipment malfunctions and implement effective repair solutions.
- Repair or replace broken or worn-out parts such as motors, gears, bearings, belts, and electrical components.
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning sensors, and other automated control systems.
- Work with external vendors and suppliers for parts and service when needed.
- Adhere to company safety standards and OSHA regulations, ensuring that all maintenance activities are performed safely.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and ensure compliance with all safety protocols.
- Ensure the shop floor environment is clean, organized, and safe for both maintenance and production personnel.
- Assist in the installation, setup, and commissioning of new equipment or machinery.
- Participate in equipment upgrades, retrofits, and improvements to enhance performance and reliability.
- Coordinate with engineering and production teams to ensure proper equipment functionality during production changes or new product introductions.
- Work closely with production staff and supervisors to identify and address recurring equipment issues or bottlenecks.
- Communicate effectively with the team regarding maintenance schedules, equipment status, and any required downtime for repairs.
- Track and manage the usage of spare parts, tools, and equipment to optimize resource utilization and cost-efficiency.
- Collaborate with other departments (production, quality control, engineering) to implement corrective actions or system optimizations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Technical certification or vocational training in mechanical or industrial maintenance preferred. Associate’s degree in industrial maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is a plus.
- 3-5 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance, with a solid understanding of machinery, electrical systems, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Experience with automated production systems is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnostic techniques, and the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Familiarity with sensors, and automated systems.
- Knowledge of welding, fabricating, and machining is a plus.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Forklift certification (preferred).
- OSHA safety certification (preferred).
- Electrical or mechanical certifications (preferred).
