Job Summary
The Independent Living Skills (ILS) Staff plays a role in supporting adults with developmental disabilities in achieving their personal goals and enhancing their overall quality of life. This position involves providing individualized assistance and guidance in a variety of settings, helping clients to develop essential life skills that promote independence and self-sufficiency.Key Responsibilities:- Assist clients in developing and implementing personalized plans focused on enhancing their independent living skills, including but not limited to cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and personal hygiene.- Provide instruction and support in community engagement activities, encouraging social interactions and participation in local events.- Teach clients to navigate public transportation and access community resources, ensuring they can travel safely and confidently within the community.- Facilitate skill-building workshops and group activities aimed at improving clients' social, vocational, and daily living skills.- Monitor client progress and provide regular feedback, adapting support strategies as needed to ensure each individual’s continued growth and development.- Collaborate with family members, caregivers, and other professionals to create a comprehensive support network for clients.- Maintain accurate documentation of client activities, progress reports, and any incidents in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.- Uphold the principles of dignity, respect, and empowerment in all interactions with clients, fostering a positive and supportive environment.
Qualifications:- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in social work, psychology, or a related field is preferred.- Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities or similar populations.- Knowledge of independent living skills, community resources, and disability services.- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering independence and self-advocacy among clients.- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility in a dynamic work environment.
