Directional Drilling (BORE) or Locator duties and responsibilities
Our trenchless boring technologies enable the installation of conduit for high voltage underground power without the need for excavation. In many cases directional drilling is the only way to install utilities from one point to another without disturbing surface features or risking damage to existing critical infrastructure. Horizontal boring technology is used to install pipelines and conduit up to 6″ in diameter, under existing roads, sidewalks, waterways, buildings, and other obstacles. Some of their typical day-to-day responsibilities include:
Directional Driller (BORE) Responsibilities
· Operation of Ditch Witch (JT-10s & JT-20s) directional drill rigs.
· Operation of vacuum excavation equipment, drilling fluid mixing equipment and digi-trac drill steering equipment.
· Perform work safely and bring safety hazards to the attention of management.
· Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures.
· Able to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and management about on-site issues.
· Successful completion of each bore in any ground conditions, understanding the correct drill mud make up for the conditions, understanding that directional drilling is a team function.
· Ability to take measurements, prepare sketches, BORE Logs, and timesheets.
Locating Responsibilities
· Understand how to use locating equipment.
· Understanding located and marked service to ensure that boring operations will not disturb buried services.
· Knowing where existing utilities may lie prior to beginning any boring or excavating operations.
· Spot dig utilities and mixing mud for directional drilling.
· Drill rigs entry and exit pits.
Requirements and Skills:
· Valid VA State driver’s license.
· Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
· Applicants must take and pass Drug Screening and Background Check including I9 Verification.
· Certification in forklift operation (in-house training provided).
· Physically fit with the ability to lift objects weighing between 50-100 pounds.
· Required physical ability, endurance, and desire to perform potentially strenuous outdoor work under various weather conditions.
· Positive work history and ability to maintain solid attendance.
· Effective leadership and team management skills.
· Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent time management and organizational skills.
· Written and verbal communication skills.
