Job Description:
As a Lab Technician at Company’s Reality Labs Research, you will wheel the tools to build our bridge to the AR/VR universe. You support researchers using them to test, analyze and debug both prototype and production hardware. You’ll work closely with the research team to coordinate test methods, testing, and documentation for the AR/VR hardware. You’ll be responsible for maintaining state of the art research labs, including opticals, robotics, and calibration spaces. You will oversee day-to-day operations for the lab space. A successful candidate will be able to expand this role to additional responsibilities and impact beyond what is listed here.
Responsibilities:
- Worked closely with engineers to perform measurements on prototype and production systems, including viewing optics, digital camera lenses, and tracking systems.
- Maintain a high level of documentation for test procedures and results
- Oversee lab equipment installation and bring up by interfacing with internal and external partners and vendors.
- Assist in space planning for lab reconfiguration to support evolving research projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Engineering background or equivalent technical experience
- Demonstrated performance in several of the skills listed below
- Experience with robot control
- Experience and documenting test procedures, and validation reports
- Experience with multiple aspects of camera systems, including lens selection, data collection, camera calibration
- Fast learning about new equipment
- Familiarity with safety systems, including interlock, laser lockouts, and optical curtains
- Excellent documentation and report writing skills
- Excellent cross functional teamwork skills
- Logical and creative thinking
- Energy and drive to work in a startup environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with software for controlling lab equipment (e.g. labVIEW, C/C , Python, ROS, etc.)
- Familiarity in physics and optics
- Familiarity with optical systems (interferometer, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, etc.)
- Experience as a lap technician in the fields of optics, electronics, or robotics
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in one of the following fields: optical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical, engineering, robotics, physics, or a related technical discipline
Tasks this role would cover:
- Bring up and maintain lab infrastructure equipment
- Control light source operation, and safety equipment (lasers, high intensity lights)
- Calibrated illumination sources
- Automated illumination sources (DMX controlled, dimmed)
- Robotic arm and track (UR10 robot) including safety systems, programming, etc.
- Camera testing and characterization
- Maintain test and calibration charts
- Run calibration software suite
- Perform standard IMATEST measurements on camera modules/systems
- Power measurement of modules
- Polarization data collection
- Capture data with rig in various environments:
- DLR apartment
- Office space
- In the wild (outdoors, at rented property)
- Controlled capture with robot arm
- Manage data organization
- Gaia/Manifold
- Robot arm data collection
- Capture sequence data for various projects with robot arm
- Superresolution (SG, SSG, MR)
- SLAM tracking
- Depth sensing
- Manage and organ equipment inventory
- Measurement equipment (light meters, DMMs, etc.)
- Prototype inventory
- Optical equipment inventory organization (lenses, mounts, OTS cameras, etc.)
Some skills/experience to have:
- Engineering/technical background
- Experience with camera systems
- Familiarity with electronics equipment
- Coding experience (python, C )
- Any robotics experience
- Familiarity with IT systems and infrastructure
Years of overall experience required:
- 4-6 years of experience, Engineering background or equivalent technical experience
Degrees/certifications required
- Bachelor’s degree; preferred would be Bachelor’s or advanced degree in one of the following fields: optical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical, engineering, robotics, physics, or a related technical discipline
