Position Title: Resident Engineer
Location: Warrenville, IL or Thornton, IL (based on candidate’s proximity) – Onsite, 5 days per week

About the Role:
Client is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to lead and manage construction inspection activities in alignment with the company's mission, vision, and values. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering, the Resident Engineer will work closely with the Director of Field Services, the Director of Technical Services, and the Laboratory Manager. The role involves overseeing day-to-day construction activities, coordinating with contractors, and ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee construction activities for a range of infrastructure projects, including IDOT, Tollway, county, municipal, and private industrial/commercial developments.
- Manage daily project activities on behalf of the client, including:
- Layout and inspection activities
- Materials testing
- Monitoring contractor performance
- Measuring installed items and collecting inspection evidence
- Ensure all contractor work aligns with contract plans and specifications.
- Maintain detailed project documentation, including:
- Daily work activities and progress reports
- Inspection reports
- Pay estimates
- Contractor work schedules and weather conditions
- Any deviations from contract terms and specifications
- Schedule and manage recurring project progress meetings.
- Ensure proper completion and submission of required waivers and final contract records to facilitate project close-out.
- Finalize measurements, calculations, and contract documentation for submission to the project owner.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- An Illinois Professional Engineering (PE) License is required.
- 5–10 years of construction inspection experience.
- Minimum 5 years experience as a Resident Engineer on IDOT and/or Tollway projects.
- Certified in IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities (S-14) and trained in eBuilder.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with IDOT and Tollway projects.
- Strong industry representation skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently without close supervision.
- Familiarity with Illinois-based construction standards and regulations.

Salary : $130,000 - $145,000
