As an Occupational Therapy Assistant you will support the educational and developmental progress of students with special needs by delivering occupational therapy services under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, ensuring the highest standards are upheld across multiple school locations and education teams.
‖ Responsibilities Include:
- Providing direct occupational therapy interventions to students as specified in their IEPs, ensuring adherence to designated service hours and schedules.
- Supporting the Occupational Therapist in conducting evaluations by gathering data, administering standardized tests, and observing students to determine their functional abilities and needs.
- Maintaining accurate and timely records of student progress, including daily notes, progress reports, and other required documentation, in accordance with district and program guidelines.
- Working closely with education staff to integrate therapy goals into the classroom setting, providing guidance on strategies and accommodations to support student success.
- Modifying classroom environments, tools, and materials under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist to enhance student participation and access to the curriculum.
- Assisting in training school staff and parents on the use of adaptive equipment and techniques to support students' functional performance.
- Ensuring therapy equipment and supplies are in good condition, reporting any need for repair or replacement to the Occupational Therapist.
- Attending IEP meetings, team meetings, and/or professional development sessions as required, contributing relevant information to support student planning and progress.
- Adhering to professional and ethical standards in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues, maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating respect for diversity.
- Traveling between and maintaining appropriate onsite presence to support all Spectrum School locations within assigned area/region.
- Performing other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of Spectrum Center Schools and Programs.
‖ Qualifications Required:
- Bachelors degree or higher in occupational therapy or a closely related field of study.
- Licensed currently, or in the process of obtaining a certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA) credential.
- A valid CA state drivers license.
- Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance, particularly for students with autism related disabilities and emotional disturbance.
- Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in applied behavior analysis (ABA) preferred.
- Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals and next steps.
- Proven ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining organization and attention to detail.
- Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.
- Well-versed in the use of relevant technology including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.
