About the Job

We are seeking an Instructional Assistant II to join our team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of students. As an Instructional Assistant II, you will play a critical role in supporting the core classroom staff and providing individualized supervision and instruction to assigned students.

Responsibilities

  • Implement curriculum and behavioral intervention strategies consistent with the IEP/ITP/PBIP to meet each student's goals and objectives.
  • Consult with supervisor on student progress and implement transition plans for integrating students back to a public school placement or to an adult program.
  • Follow the classroom schedule addressing each student's IEP/ITP goals including community and vocational goals, group instruction, DIS, and schedule revisions.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation on student behavior and make recommendations based on observations.
  • Assist in preparation of other behavioral reports and daily activities log as required.
  • Participate in data collection and provide input for Functional Analyses of Behavior and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Perform job coaching duties, including training students in work behavior and specific employment skills.
  • Provide basic physical needs of students as needed and maintain safety and security of the facility.
  • Comply with company policies/procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide crisis intervention as necessary using the least restrictive method.
  • Meet school and regulatory training requirements.
  • Assure cleanliness and orderliness of the classroom.
  • Participate as a team member and promote a positive work environment.
  • Assist with other daily classroom functions and special assignments.
  • Act as the primary instructor, supervisor, and mentor to students and staff when the teacher is absent.
  • Provide classroom orientation for new staff.
  • Assist with planning and preparation of educational materials and activities.
  • Assist the teacher in managing the classroom budget, records, and environment.
  • Serve as an aide to provide supervision and management of student behavior during transportation routes.
  • Provide transportation for students as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a closely related field of study.
  • Hold currently or have the ability to obtain an 'Emergency 30 Day Sub Permit' within 90 days of starting employment.
  • Hold currently or have the ability to obtain a valid CA state driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to drive a company van and transport students within the community.
  • Minimum 3 years prior experience working with children in an education and/or classroom setting.
  • Prior experience working with children with autism, developmental disabilities, and/or challenging behaviors in a special education program setting preferred.
  • Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.
  • Solid motivational skills and willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and new initiatives.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Well-versed in the use of relevant technology, including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
