Location: Forbes Road Career and Technical Center/Spectrum Charter School
Description: The goal of the Paraprofessional is to assist the teacher in a variety of ways to implement instructional programs including working directly with students in small groups or on a one to one basis and to assist in daily classroom management and organization. The classroom teacher serves as the direct supervisor of the Paraeducator.
As directed by classroom teacher, duties and responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following:
Provide ongoing classroom support
Review and implement classroom lesson plans as outlined
Provide assistance to students in small groups or on a one-to-one basis
Provide ongoing support during community based vocational training, educational tours and community learning experiences, including driving students in a school van
Maintain a valid driver’s license
Complete all assigned classroom paperwork and record attendance, grades and data collection
Prepare, adapt and organize instructional strategies, materials and classroom environment to support teaching
Use strategies, equipment, materials and technologies to accomplish educational objectives
Utilize effective strategies for behavior & classroom management including non-violent CPI
Use strategies to assist in the development of social skills (ex. Sitting with students at lunch and supporting during school events)
Communicate efficiently and effectively with classroom teacher
Collect any necessary data or information as directed
Assist with school-wide maintenance schedule and assigned monitoring duties
Assist with school-wide activities like student counsel and student clubs
Maintain confidentiality (FERPA)
Promote independence and school pride
Keep an updated record of community hours per student (records should be updated the same day as the community outing).
If in possession of your teaching certification, substitute in the classroom(s) as needed and/ or assist with medication
