What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety and Support Coordinator- Secure Youth Facility position at Spectrum Human Services?
Spectrum provides treatment and detention support for youth aged 12 - 20 in a highly secure facility. We are looking for a responsible Safety and Support Coordinator who coordinates the activities of an assigned group of youth and can provide coaching, resolve issues, and link subordinates and facility management.
The Safety and Support Coordinator is responsible for security and safety operations in Spectrum’s high-security residential facilities. Essential duties of this role include monitoring youth activities, staff access, safety programs, and daily patrols. The coordinator also oversees authorized and non-authorized visitors, outdoor recreational areas, fire safety, youth transportation, interviews, court hearings, medical appointments, hospital emergencies, etc. Crisis response, transportation duties, off-campus security, and record-keeping are also essential responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will be a great communicator who can guide and train employees. Shift Coordinators are on-the-floor leaders who observe and provide feedback to promote the growth of the Youth Workers on their assigned shifts.
Successful Safety and Support Coordinators understand policies and are well-versed in facility programs, policies, and processes. The goal is to maintain an environment that promotes growth and engagement in Spectrum’s mission to become the provider of choice for high-secure treatment and detention services in Michigan.

Must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum: High School diploma and 1-year experience in a residential treatment/detention center.
- Preferred: Two years of college from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in a residential treatment/detention center.
- The candidate must complete and return a record of no findings on the DHHS Central Registry Clearance, a criminal background check free of felony convictions, a physical examination that indicates satisfactory health status free from communicable diseases, including TB, and the physical ability to perform the function of the job with or without accommodations. The candidate must also have reliable transportation and a valid State of Michigan Driver's License.
