What are the responsibilities and job description for the Audio: Rack Electronics Technician position at Spectrum Sound?
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervise and assist with the prep, de-prep and documentation of rack electronics.
- Help develop and uphold standards for Spectrum system packing.
- Help clients with troubleshooting and proper use/implementation of equipment and Spectrum configurations/packaging. Be on call to support them during and after normal shop business hours.
- Keep records of support calls with clients, and follow up with the Rack Electronics Supervisor, Project Manager and Account Managers to ensure that the proper steps are taken to resolve any outstanding issues.
- Keep good records, drawings, and/or computer files, backed up off site, of all rack layouts and other documentation for future reference and rebuilds. This includes all versions of files, from earlier to recent. Also keep specific records of software installed when a job leaves, and refer to it for future requested rebuilds. .
- Ensure that cross-rented or client owned gear is restored to original state during the de-prep process, specifically cross-rented outboard equipment and recording/Pro Tools systems.
- Update or downgrade software/ firmware for RF gear, I/Os, and computers as needed. Ensure that those pieces are up to date and compatible with other equipment being used.
- Ensure that the correct size and type of UPS, word clocks, fiber, and cables required for the job are used.
- Keep up to date on understanding the current RF landscape—how current and upcoming broadcast restrictions affect Spectrum-owned RF broadcast equipment (wireless microphones, in-ear systems).
- Assist with minor repairs, like fader or card swaps.
- Work with the Spectrum shipping department and manufacturers as needed for service and repairs outside of Spectrum.
- Educate and train others on rack electronics and Spectrum’s packaging/wiring standard.
Applicants Must:
- Have 2 years’ experience in audio.
- Be available for some client support outside of a normal Monday - Friday workday.
- Be knowledgeable in audio signal flow, system design, and packaging.
- Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Possess good skills in planning, organizing, and time management.
- Be a multitasker.
- Be self directed and self-motivated, with a sense of urgency.
- Be able to problem-solve and make decisions.
- Have a superior work ethic and integrity.
- Have a high school diploma; college classes are preferred.
- Be able to lift heavy objects.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 45 per week
