Job description: Certified Nurse Assistant
MAIN FUNCTION: To provide perioperative care to patients undergoing procedures, under the direction of registered nurses and surgeons at NVCC.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pre-operatively:
- Greet and identify patients.
- Escort to preoperative desk to verify medical history and preoperative data as listed on the perioperative sheet including vital signs, date of birth, operative site and medications with dosages including when last taken.
- Report any abnormal vital signs, LOC or non-compliance with NPO status to nurse/anesthesiologist.
- Verify signature on consents for procedures.
- Identify operative site with appropriate mark, once verified with patient and chart (any discrepancies, check with surgeon)
- Verify patient name and date of birth, apply patient ID band/bands.
- Assists patient to put on gown, cap, and booties
- Assists staff as needed
- Assist in Pre-Op as needed
- CEUs as required
- Assist with wiping all surfaces and cleaning all equipment with germicidal wipes per instructions.
- Replace sharp containers as needed
Intra-Operatively:
- Assist patient and nursing staff to operating room, place monitors, and assist with positioning.
- Assist in setting up OR for surgery by wiping all surfaces and equipment with germicidal wipes.
- Assist in handling, cleaning and sterilizing instruments, if trained and maintains 10 CEUs specific to sterile processing and instrument maintenance.
- Wiping surfaces and monitors in OR between cases.
- Assist with OR turnover.
- Assist in transferring patient to PACU.
- Empty trash at end of surgery and end of day.
- Assist with restocking OR at end of surgery day.
- Replace sharps containers as needed.
- Assist with wrapping instruments for sterilization.
- Assist with cleaning of sterilizer room at end of day/surgery week.
- Femto Laser and scrub support
Postoperatively:
- Greet and identify patient upon their arrival to PACU.
- Assist patient to remove gown, hat, and booties.
- Apply monitors and report any abnormality in vital signs and LOC to nurse / anesthesiologist.
- Provide nourishment to patient.
- Assist nurse as necessary.
- Accompanies patient and responsible party to exit.
- Wipe chair, table, and monitors with germicidal wipe per instructions when patient is discharged.
- Assist in Pre-Op as needed.
- Empty laundry bag as needed.
- Stock blanket warmer.
- CEUs as required.
Office Responsibilities:
- Organize and assemble charts including obtaining medical history and clearance from MD offices.
- File charts and paperwork in charts as need arises.
- Pull charts as needed (i.e. peer review)
- Assemble YAG packets.
- Restock toilet paper and paper towels in all restrooms.
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Assist MDs, RNs, and LPNs as necessary.
- Assist in routine and emergency situations.
EDUCATION REQUIRMENTS:
High School Graduate or Equivalent (GED); Graduate with Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Multi-Skilled Technician certificate. CEUs as required by Infection Control Liaison.
Salary : $23 - $25
