JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Adapted Physical Education Instructor
This position works at one school in Buena Park. No travel required. Follows modified school calendar, 205 days per year.
Exempt/Non-Exempt Status: Exempt
Salary Level: Commensurate with credentials and experience.
Overall Purpose: Provides individual, group and/or consult services for all assigned clients with a focus on health/fitness and social/recreational program activities or games. Plans sessions and related materials for each session, conducts assessments, collects/records data, and supports Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goal development for all assigned clients
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Fulfil daily contracted instructional hours, utilizing best practices and research based methodologies to maximize student progress.
- Conduct assessments.
- Collect and record data and supporting IEP goal development for all clients on their assigned caseload (including development or updating of student IEP and attending all client related meetings).
- Provide training, supervision and performance management for paraprofessionals, interns and volunteers within SLDC’s educational program.
- Maintain fiscal stewardship of all department funds, equipment and materials.
Other Duties:
- Create and maintain an effective environment for student learning.
- Work with leadership to co-implement SLDC’s mission, policies, and strategic objectives.
- Participate in collaborative opportunities to advance the goals and initiatives of the organization.
- Complete mandated trainings and maintain related competencies as assigned by SLDC administration.
- Occasionally present or participate in professional development opportunities.
Relationships/Contacts: Establish rapport and maintain ongoing internal communication with clients, colleagues, supervisor and administrative staff. Maintain external contact with and professional boundaries between parents, caregivers and other external agencies.
Additional Dimensions: Instructors are also expected to help maintain a safe environment for all clients, demonstrate successful utilization of Crisis Management protocols, and exhibit compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA.)

This position is classified as exempt meaning more than 50% of the employee’s time is spent performing exempt job duties consistent with this job description. If the employee finds the actual job duties change from those described herein so the employee is not performing exempt duties more than 50% of the time, the employee must immediately inform management.
Qualification Requirements: Degree in related field (Master’s preferred).
1 year or more experience in APE or related setting.
Ability to process and use related data/reports.
Valid License and/or credential and certification. Applicant MUST HAVE one of the following, APE Added Authorization, an APE Specialist Credential, or an APE Emphasis Credential, to provide APE Services at our school.
Valid Driver License.
Proficient use of technology (including software and hardware). Fluency in commonly used IEP software programs.
Physical Demands: Standing 20%, sitting 20%, walking 50%, lifting 5%, computer use 15%, bending 5%, stooping 5%, lifting up to 50 lbs., ability to implement CPR and crisis intervention and de-escalation training at all times.
Work Environment: Frequent noise and interruptions, changes in temperature, ability to traverse uneven surfaces.
