Internship Spring 2025


Speedway Children's Charities (SCC) was founded in 1982 by O. Bruton Smith as a memoriam and legacy to his son, Bruton Cameron Smith, who passed away at a very young age. Speedway Children’s Charities has chapters located at Speedway Motorsports-owned entertainment facilities across the country. The headquarters of the Speedway Children’s Charities national office is in Charlotte, North Carolina.


Speedway Motorsports maintains a consistent focus on four core principles:

· Profitably improve our business and operations


This internship is a paid position that will support the SCC Charlotte & North Wilkesboro Chapter Director & SCC National in all SCC business activities at Charlotte Motor Speedway, North Wilkesboro Speedway and our National Sales Team.

We are looking to hire an enthusiastic, hard-working, accomplished, and dedicated intern to help kids in need throughout our communities. This internship will extend through the end of May with possible extension through the end of July .


Intern Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:


Event Management

· Event Brainstorming

· Event Planning

· Event Set-up

· Event Tear-down

· Event Execution


Business Development/Sales

· Cold and warm reach outs to local businesses

· Schedule sponsorship meetings

· Create and edit sponsorship decks

· Create new business for SCC


Marketing/Social Media

· Create a social media plan

· Manage official SCC social channels

· Research opportunities to market SCC and analyze our target market

· Create social graphics, logos, and flyers


Public Relations

· Draft SCC press releases

· Liaison with Charlotte Motor Speedway PR team regarding SCC media relations


Non-Profit/Fundraising

· Assist in communicating with donors

· Create and mail contribution letters

· Sit-in on board meetings

· Manage event forms for 501(c)(3) compliance

· Communicate with teammates on various fundraising events

· Research potential avenues for fundraising growth

· Assist in recruiting volunteers and speaking with local volunteer groups


Other

· Other duties as assigned by SCC Chapter Director, SCC North Wilkesboro Community Coordinator, SCC National or SCC Event Staff Leader

· Assist other Charlotte Motor Speedway & North Wilkesboro Speedway Departments as needed

· Assist other SCC Chapter Directors as needed


Skills and Attributes

· Ability to contribute creative ideas and concepts

· Strong writing and communication skills are essential

· Ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced live environment while keeping a positive attitude

· Ability to remain extremely flexible in an ever-changing environment & conduct yourself in a professional manner and setting

· Ability to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines

· Availability and enthusiasm to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends

Experience and Education:

· Degree-seeking college student – B.A., B.S. or majoring in Business Management, Event Management, Public Relations, Communications, Social Media, Marketing, or related field.

· Experience with Microsoft Office

· Sales, Marketing, or Event Management is a plus

· Experience with Adobe and Canva is a plus

· General knowledge of NASCAR and auto racing is a positive, but not a requirement
