The Electronic Resources Librarian provides leadership in the acquisition, evaluation, management, and promotion of a wide range of scholarly electronic resources including databases, journal packages, streaming video, and ebooks. Responsibilities include integrating the electronic resources, where appropriate, with the link resolver and discovery layer; resolving access problems for electronic content; and training other staff members in resolving problems as appropriate.

Electronic Resources Responsibilities :

  • Acquire and manage resources : Implementing the library’s online services such as databases, journals / journal packages, ebook packages / collections, and streaming video packages / collections.
  • Facilitate access : Managing access to electronic resources, including discovery, usability, and problem resolution.
  • Maintain electronic resources : Managing electronic resources in the Alma unified resource management (URM) system, the Primo discovery service, the OpenURL link resolver, and other library tools.
  • Evaluate : Creating and sharing analytics reports to support data-driven decisions.
  • Negotiate : Communicating with vendors and publishers to negotiate pricing, navigate content licensing, and resolve usability issues.
  • General Responsibilities :

  • Providing reference services in person and via technology.
  • Providing general and specialized instruction to students and faculty in various modalities.
  • Teaching sections of a 3-credit information literacy course, LSCI 125 Research in the Information Age : Classes may be online, in-person, Hybrid, or HyFlex.
  • Working with one or more colleges / departments, including the Center for Teaching and Learning, and developing relationships with faculty and staff to support instruction and research.
  • Participating in collection management activities in assigned subject areas, such as book selection and evaluation of electronic resources.
  • Promoting activities associated with Open Educational Resources (OER).
  • Engaging in professional development activities as appropriate.
  • Serving actively on university committees and library communities.
  • Contributing to the Library’s efforts to secure additional resources through grants and fundraising opportunities.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Requires sufficient mobility to work in a library setting, operate office equipment, able to lift, push or pull at least 40 lbs. Additional physical demands may include : stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching overhead and horizontally, repetitive hand movements, sitting for extended periods of time, and 6-8 hours of screen time per day.

    Education Required :

  • Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program
  • Experience Required :

  • Related library experience in an academic setting.
  • Knowledge of issues related to electronic resources management.
  • Experience with Library Management Systems (LMS) and specialized library software.
  • Experience providing instruction and research support in an academic library environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based setting.
  • Experience working in and fostering a diverse environment.
  • Experience Preferred :

  • Two or more years of academic or research library experience.
  • Experience with library-related software such as Alma, Primo, EBSCOnet, LibApps, and OCLC.
  • Recent experience cataloging electronic resources.
  • Experience working with vendors.
  • Experience working in a library consortium environment.
  • Working knowledge of best practices relating to copyright, fair use, intellectual property, and scholarly communication.
