QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or GED; CDA or higher;
  • Child friendly; energetic; creative and flexible; previous child-care experience; working in a setting with diverse learning styles; great PR with public; strong reading and writing skills; organizational and record keeping skills; computer skills; infant / child CPR, and Basic First- Aid training; *Degree preferred.

JOB GOALS:

To efficiently and pleasantly oversee the smooth and effective operation of the Bear Care Enrichment program so that the program’s maximum positive impact on the education of the children can be realized; to perform highly responsible child-care duties and provide clerical support to the Director of the program for the successful implementation of the Board of Education’s Bear Care Enrichment School Program.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Previous experience in a child-care setting required;
  • Strong reading and writing skills; possess organizational skills;
  • Basic computer skills with data entry;
  • Use of copy machine;
  • Light bookkeeping experience;
  • Possess leadership qualities;
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to maintain a pleasant attitude and to establish and maintain effective working Relationships with students and others while working effectively under minimum supervision;
  • Infant/child CPR training;
  • Basic First- Aid training;
  • Child abuse and neglect training;
  • Ability to establish and maintain a variety of complex and confidential files and records; Ability to work confidentially with discretion;
  • Ability to work or lead in an organized setting with diverse ages and learning styles.
  • On-Site Team Leader must agree to obtain his/her CDA if he/she does not have CDA or higher.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with a group of students according to age group to staff ratio
  • If the Director is not present in the facility, the Team Leader shall carry out the duties of the Director.
  • Will assure that guidelines from the state cabinet for Human Resources are reviewed and abided by
  • Checks in/out students – requires parent or specified designee to show I.D. and sign register *Keeps track of attendance
  • Friendly greeting and PR
  • Will obtain (21*Stars requirement) hours of orientation and child development training
  • Agree to attend CDA training as required by Stars participation if necessary
  • The ability to assist in the planning and implementation of a variety of activities designed to enhance a child’s developmental, educational, and social needs, but not limited to: arts and crafts, organized games, study time/academic support, group topical discussions, snack, recreational activities and free play that support the educational standards.
  • Dispensing only doctor prescribed medication and documenting according to state requirements, (No other medicine unless written instructions are provided from a doctor).
  • Good organizational skills and record keeping skills
  • Computer use and data entry
  • Light book keeping and receipt writing
  • Monitoring activities and schedules
  • The ability to supervise students of elementary age with or without special needs
  • The ability to encourage positive behavior and self-esteem in students through the use of natural and logical consequences
  • Assists in orientation of new employees and substitutes
  • Assists in ordering of supplies and snacks as needed
  • Assists in the preparation of all program reports
  • If applicable works with the principal or director on discipline referrals
  • Will be responsible for following the direction of the Program Director and School Principal
  • Use of proper CPR and first aid certification skills as trained if needed
  • Maintaining cleanliness of areas used by Bear Care Program
  • Flexibility to accept various duties assigned by the Director as needed
  • Will implement knowledge gained from 6 hour orientation class

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds
