Position Summary:
Spencer East Brookfield School District wants to add a dynamic, qualified speech and language pathologist to our Special Education Team. Our supportive Team is looking for a qualified service provider to provide therapy to help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
The Speech and Language pathologist reports to the Director of Student Services, in consultation with School Building Administrators.
Job Description:
Responsibilities of the Speech and Language Pathologist:
*Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments, and then assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community, as appropriate;
*Provides a therapeutic program and develops specific performance objectives to meet individual needs of speech and hearing handicapped children, as prescribed by the Evaluation Team, and collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities;
*Maintains thorough, ongoing records of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as individual students receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services. Maintains a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services;
*Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement, and provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate;
*Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for re-certification;
*Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed;
*Other duties, as assigned.
