What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crossing Guard Immediate Opening position at Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District?
Crossing Guard needed before and after school hours - 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (11:50 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. on half days.)
Work schedule = One (1) hour per day
Qualifications of a School Crossing Guard
• You must have the ability to convey information effectively
• Possess problem-solving skills incorporating sensitivity along with speech clarity and
perceptiveness
• Be able to follow general rules when caring for children
• Have knowledge of public safety and security policies and procedures (training available)
Responsibilities of a School Crossing Guard
• Greet students and families as they arrive at the crosswalk
• Stop traffic and assist students with crossing the street
• Provide school children with safe and protected access to and from their school
• Escorting or directing children/pedestrians across streets and stopping traffic as necessary
• Monitor traffic flow to identify safe gaps through which students/pedestrians may cross streets
• Follow basic principles of student safety at all times
• Establish good relationships with the students, school staff, and parents
• Work in conjunction with school bus drivers to ensure children who must cross streets to board a bus or cross after leaving the
school are safe
