Responsible to: Transportation Director Supervises: NONE Evaluated by: Transportation Director
Terms of Employment: 260 40 hours per week
Evaluation Period: • Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per SOCS Performance and Assessment Procedures
- Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1
Responsibilities of the Position:
1. Assist in planning, organizing, and operating the Transportation Department to ensure the safe transportation of students
2. Assist in all activities involving responsibility, dependability, punctuality, and attendance of transportation employees
3. Assist in the recruitment and training of transportation employees
4. Assist in budget preparation and budget implementation for the Transportation Department
5. Remain current on all Federal, State, and local regulations concerning transportation
6. Be familiar with and follow the chain of command
7. Be familiar with the goals, objectives, and policies of Spencer-Owen Community Schools and adhere to them as they relate to the position
8. Exhibit appropriate personal relations with subordinates, peers, and supervisors
9. Exhibit appropriate relations with members of the public, vendors, the media, and other governmental agencies
10. Exhibit proper dress and personal hygiene for the position
11. Observe working hours and do not abuse lunch and break periods
12. Follow proper purchasing and procurement procedures
13. Be aware of and follow requirements for confidentiality of the position
14. Assist with minor bus and vehicle maintenance (i.e.: checking and filling fluid levels; changing wiper blades or light bulbs)
15. Assist in dispatching during bus routes
16. Be available to be on call after hours on a rotating schedule
17. Be available to take night and weekend bus trips if needed
18. Assist with maintaining records of driver credentials to ensure they
are current
19. Assist with preparing for annual school bus inspections with the Indiana State Police
20. Assist with planning and ensuring coverage for daily routes and Athletic/ECA trips
21. Assist with discipline issues of students by working with drivers and school administrators
22. Must adhere to Federal, State and SOCS drug and alcohol testing policies and procedures
23. Must be able to pass a DOT CDL physical
24. Must act as corporation sub driver as needed, including the Indiana School for the Deaf route
25. Assist with submitting employee payroll as needed
26. Assist with checking road and turn around conditions as needed due to inclement weather or other reasons
27. Assist with ensuring the Transportation building and grounds are open in the morning and secured at the end of the day
28. Assist with Transportation staff questions and concerns
29. Assist with ensuring that Transportation staff are following Federal, State, SOCS and Transportation policies and procedures
30. Assist with preparing for the annual Back to School Meeting
31. Assist with routing as needed
32. Assist with communicating and documenting vehicle maintenance issues
33. Assist with retrieving and viewing bus videos
