What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Academy Special Education Teachers position at Spencerport Central Schools?
Position: Summer Academy Special Education Teacher (2)
The Summer Academy will be taught in a workshop style, building on students' abilities and interests. Teacher will provide strategic literacy and numeracy instruction. Participants will be encouraged to read materials at their independent and instructional levels and use technology to write or respond in a variety of formats. Students will work together in multi-age learning teams to explore mathematic operations and various genres of writing.
Project: Summer Academy (entering grades 2-5)
This program is contingent upon approval of the 2025-26 budget
Preferred Credentials: Current Special Education Teacher, Elementary Teacher or Reading Specialist. Must have training and experience with: guided reading groups and/or Literature Circles; administering and analyzing a record of reading behavior; Lucy Calkins within the writing process; support the learning center approach when teaching literacy; use technology to support reading and written expression skill development (Reading A-Z, Readworks, IXL, Wixie, KidPix, Work, PowerPoint, etc.); math workshop model. Derive satisfaction from working with at-risk readers & writers (regular education and special education).
Work Year: Monday-Thursday, July 7, 2025 - August 7, 2025 (no Fridays). 8:00AM - 12:00PM (Students attend 8:45AM-11:45AM). A commitment to the remainder of the program is required.
Salary: 16 hours per week, plus 1 day for planning (6 hours), as per STA agreement.
