As a Therapeutic Activities Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of individual and group therapeutic activities, including art, music, sports, physical activities, and volunteerism. You will work closely with the Therapeutic Activities Coordinator and other staff to help create a safe, supportive environment where youth can explore new interests, build self-confidence, and develop positive relationships. Your role will help facilitate staff-youth connections and promote pro-social behaviors while assisting in the overall enrichment of the youth's experience.

Key Responsibilities:
Activity Development and Schedule: Create and schedule opportunities for recreational, therapeutic, and leisure activities for clients. Activities should focus on promoting physical/emotional well-being of the youth and promoting community integration and healthy boundaries. Duties may include:
- providing transportation to-and-from activities and providing assessments related to activities
- direct supervision (in ratio) of youth in assigned program(s) during activities
- ensure specialized supervision plans are being maintained and followed at all times
Documentation: Complete accurate and timely documentation of services. Duties may include:
- Medicaid eligible treatment notes for individual and group service delivery
- meeting established treatment targets
Treatment Culture: Ensure activities align with the Residential Treatment program plan and the agency’s CARE philosophy. Become certified in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent, at least 21 years old, and a valid Illinois driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications: MHP certified per Medicaid standards and previous experience in 24/7 care
Skills: Must be organized, able to multi-task, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, basic computer skills, and detail oriented. Must be able to interact with, and relate to, diverse groups of people. Must have the strength/mobility needed to perform Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
Miscellaneous: Must pass all pre-employment drug screens and background clearances. Must maintain driving clearances. Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the program.
Program Population: The youth in these programs have a complexity of mental health issues/disorders. The intensity of these mental health issues warrants placement in a highly structured, supervised and safe therapeutic environment. The focus of the program is to provide crisis stabilization/management, behavioral management, and clinical treatment in effort to reduce the mental health disturbance and assist the youth in returning to a less restrictive setting. Due to the severity of youth’s mental health issues in their program the use of physical restraints and/or seclusion are necessary at time.
