What you'll be doing:
As a Certified Trainee, Sperry will train and ultimately promote you to be a Professional Certified Operator in the RFD Non-destructive testing industry. You will be paid to earn your education in our Connecticut-based Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection. Our instructors will take you through advanced curriculums which you'll then apply in the field as seasoned Certified Operators continuing your training, advancing your expertise, and refining your skills. Once promoted, you will oversee your own testing platform and/or crew. Promotion opportunities exist both in-field and within our field support centers located in North America and Europe.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Successfully complete training through the Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection.
- Apply your learning of rail detection modes, platforms, techniques, and procedures across Short Line and Class 1 railways throughout the country.
- Earn your certification in ultrasonic testing standards and apply your learning in the field.
- Learn to work as a crew member and ultimately lead a crew in the field.
- Understand Sperry's wide array of technologies and interfaces.
- Obtain working knowledge of mechanical and system-based set-up and repair. Understand railroad procedures and safety protocols.
- Apply your learning in the field with assignments that can last 3-4 months at a time.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills/programs.
- Mechanical proficiency with automotive or technical systems preferred.
- Capable of multitasking and use of tools.
- Valid driver's license.
- Must be able to clear all background and pre-employment screenings required for this position.

Working Conditions:
While this is a field position, there may be instances where you will be required to visit an office for meetings. Extensive travel is necessary to complete all the requirements of the position. Please be prepared to work in all weather, including extreme weather conditions.
