Job Description
The Buyer is responsible for procuring the materials, components, and services required for production within the manufacturing facility. The Buyer will acquire goods and services by ensuring uninterrupted supply sources for quality materials while meeting company targets and department metrics involving costs, inventory, and supplier management goals. The role involves identifying suppliers, negotiating contracts, managing inventory levels, and ensuring timely delivery of goods to meet production schedules. The Buyer works closely with production, engineering, and inventory teams to maintain cost-efficiency and high-quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Oversees and maintains inventory.
- Researches, analyzes, and forecasts current and future buying trends, markets, styles, and products with attention to specified target market and demographics.
- Develops and maintains relationships with wholesalers and suppliers.
- Negotiates contracts with wholesalers and suppliers.
- Attends trade shows, product exhibitions, and conferences to maintain understanding of new products and trends.
- Understand where and why specific purchased goods are used in equipment fabrication and suggest alternatives as necessary to simplify supply chain.
- Research, evaluate, and establish relationships with suppliers of raw materials, components, and other manufacturing goods. Negotiate favorable pricing, terms, and contracts.
- Place orders for materials, parts, and supplies based on production schedules and inventory levels. Ensure that the right quantity and quality are ordered at the right time.
- Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with the warehouse or inventory management team to track stock, manage lead times, and reduce the risk of stockouts or overstocking.
- Continuously assess and manage procurement costs to achieve cost reductions without compromising on quality. Investigate cost-saving opportunities through supplier negotiations or alternative sourcing.
- Ensure that all purchased goods meet the quality standards required by the production team. Resolve any quality issues related to suppliers or materials.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, supplier communications, and delivery schedules.
- Generate and submit procurement reports on purchasing trends, inventory usage, and cost savings.
- Work closely with internal teams.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
