Electrical Maintenance Technician
Schedule: M-F 8 hour shifts; Possibility of moving to a 12 hour rotating shift
Pay Range: $25 - $30 dependent on skill level
Job Summary:
The Electrical Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of all electrical systems, troubleshooting issues, and conducting preventive maintenance to minimize downtime in a manufacturing environment. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to read blueprints and schematics, and experience with electrical troubleshooting, repair, and installation.
Key Responsibilities: Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform electrical troubleshooting and repairs on industrial machinery, production equipment, and material handling systems.
- Diagnose, repair, and replace electrical components, including motors (AC & DC), relays, starters, circuit breakers, heater bands, thermocouples, and control systems.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance on electrical equipment to ensure optimal performance and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Install, repair, and maintain wiring, control panels, and electrical systems in accordance with local and national codes.
- Bend, install, and repair rigid or EMT conduit as required for electrical installations.
- Identify and correct potential electrical hazards before they lead to system failures.
Technical & Troubleshooting Expertise
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
- Utilize volt meters and other diagnostic tools to test electrical circuits, measure voltage, and identify faulty components.
- Troubleshoot and replace programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and other automated control systems.
- Work with resin systems, including troubleshooting and maintaining Kiefel extruders, winders, and other specialized equipment.
- Download and reload software programs for industrial control systems when necessary.
- Ensure all electrical work meets national and local electrical codes and safety regulations.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete and maintain accurate records of work orders, maintenance logs, and test data.
- Ensure compliance with all written and verbal safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in safety meetings and follow OSHA guidelines for electrical safety.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of assigned work areas.
Collaboration & Efficiency
- Work closely with production and engineering teams to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
- Assist in training other maintenance personnel on electrical troubleshooting and safety practices.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance overall department efficiency.
- Be available for overtime, emergency call-ins, and rotating schedules as required.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in an electrical maintenance role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Technical certification or associate degree in Electrical Maintenance, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting and programming (preferred).
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools like voltmeters, ammeters, and oscilloscopes.
- Knowledge of industrial motor controls, VFDs, and power distribution systems.
- Familiarity with resin systems and extrusion equipment is a plus.
- Other Requirements:
- Must have regular, reliable attendance and be willing to work outside regular schedules, including overtime.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
Tools & Equipment Used:
- Electrical diagnostic tools (multimeters, clamp meters, megohmmeters, etc.)
- Industrial control systems (PLCs, VFDs, HMIs)
- Mechanical and electrical hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, wire strippers, conduit benders, etc.)
- Testing and calibration instruments
