Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth patient experience from the moment they enter our facility. This position requires strong clerical skills, excellent phone etiquette, and a solid understanding of medical billing and insurance verification processes. The Patient Access Representative will work closely with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to facilitate efficient patient access to care.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and assist them with the check-in/out process.
- Answer calls, screen and direct calls to appropriate parties.
- Collect all demographic information, reason for visit, and pharmacy information to register the patient.
- Verify patient insurance information and eligibility prior to appointments.
- Accurately input patient data into the electronic health record system.
- Handle clerical tasks including but not limited to electronic filing, scheduling appointments, assisting with forms, writing letters and managing care plans.
- Respond to patient inquiries regarding their accounts, services, and insurance coverage.
- Obtains authorizations on carrier websites, portals, or via phone calls if chosen facility does not facilitate authorization. Assist with Peer 2 Peer scheduling.
- Collaborate with clinic staff to ensure seamless patient flow.
- Utilize AdvancedMD and Weave software for managing appointments, patient records, billing information and telecomm system.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a medical receptionist or in a similar role is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical billing processes and insurance verification is essential.
- Strong clerical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
- Excellent phone etiquette and communication skills for effective patient interaction.
- Experience working in a neurosurgery/surgery specialty outpatient setting is a plus.
- Well organized with an ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of care plans and medical terminology is beneficial but not required.
