Job Summary: The 911 Dispatcher is responsible for receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls, gathering essential information, and dispatching the appropriate emergency services, including law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel. The ideal candidate will remain composed under pressure, demonstrate quick decision-making skills, and communicate effectively to ensure the safety of both the public and first responders. This position requires monitoring and operating multiple radio channels to facilitate communication with emergency responders and collaborating with other emergency services and agencies to coordinate response efforts. Additionally, the dispatcher will maintain accurate and detailed records of calls, dispatches, and unit statuses.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make rapid, effective decisions in high-stress situations.
- Strong multitasking abilities and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with computers, dispatch software, and other related technologies.
- Capacity to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, drug screening, hearing test, dispatch certification, and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification.
- Availability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Prior experience in emergency dispatch, law enforcement, fire, EMS, or a related field.
- Current dispatch certification, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), and CPR certification.
Training: On-the-job training will be provided to ensure all necessary skills and knowledge for the role are acquired.
Pay and Benefits:
- Starting pay: $23.79 per hour.
- Scheduled raises at 6 months, 1 year, and 18 months.
