Summary
Spinnaker Solutions is partnering with our client in the agricultural construction sector to recruit a Safety Lead responsible for enforcing and implementing comprehensive safety programs across project sites. This position requires expertise in OSHA regulations and a proactive approach to site safety for new construction projects, specifically those involving grain handling and processing facilities. The Safety Lead will work closely with the Site Superintendent, subcontractors, and clients to ensure all safety standards are upheld, conducting regular daily and hourly walkthroughs and managing compliance documentation. This role also involves climbing heights up to 200 feet, managing work permits, and facilitating safety training sessions.
Key Responsibilities include conducting safety inspections, implementing daily safety protocols, and maintaining clear and open communication with all on-site personnel. The Safety Lead will play a pivotal role in cultivating a strong safety culture by engaging with the workforce, monitoring for hazards, and adapting safety protocols to meet client-specific requirements. The position is rotational, offering 21 days on, 7 days off, with per diem provided for travel needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Compliance and Inspections
- Conduct thorough daily and hourly safety inspections across job sites to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
- Collaborate with Site Superintendents and subcontractors to identify and address potential hazards, maintain safe work conditions, and uphold safety protocols.
- Safety Documentation and Permits
- Manage work permits such as JSA, hot work permits, lockout/tagout procedures, and confined space entry, ensuring all safety documents are accurately completed and submitted.
- Document and report all incidents, near misses, and property damage in real-time, preparing for accident review and compliance meetings as necessary.
- Training and Safety Culture
- Lead on-site safety training for new hires and existing personnel, covering essential topics and OSHA standards, including updates on OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 qualifications.
- Facilitate and document weekly toolbox talks and participate in critical lift assessments to ensure all team members are informed of site-specific safety requirements.
- Client and Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the safety liaison between the client, subcontractors, and MMB teams, adapting safety programs to meet any unique client requirements.
- Maintain strong relationships with client safety personnel, summarizing safety meetings and addressing concerns proactively.
Position Time Allocation
- 60% – Field inspections and active safety management with MMB teams, subcontractors, and clients.
- 15% – Lead safety training, onboarding, and OSHA-related updates.
- 10% – Participate in client and team meetings for project and safety updates.
- 10% – Complete and file all safety documentation electronically.
- 5% – Address any one-off safety issues as they arise.
Required Qualifications
- Certifications: OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 required.
- Experience: 5 years in a safety role, preferably in agricultural construction or new construction environments, with experience managing multiple contractors.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office; experience with digital safety documentation tools is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work at heights up to 200 feet and lift 50 lbs repeatedly.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to train and engage effectively with all levels of personnel.
- Personal Attributes: Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of self-scheduling and task prioritization in a fast-paced environment.
