Role Summary
Reporting to the Head of Finance you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial data to support the business with strategic decision making. You will act as the safeguard for the business against risk by implementing and maintaining internal controls. You will manage the monthly close process and prepare financial statements for the USA and Canada sales companies in line with International Financial Reporting Standards, and as a leader you will coach and develop a team of five accountants.

What you’ll be doing

  • Management Accounts Preparation and submission: You will adhere to all IFRS reporting requirements and internal deadlines to submit accurate and timely financial statements and associated support schedules. You will ensure regular professional development with all external standards and internal updates on financial requirements.
  • Month End Close and General Ledger Management: You will manage a team of five staff accountants and ensure all month end close activities including general ledger journals, balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis. You will lead the team in Fixed and Leased Assets Accounting, Inventory, Costing, Intercompany Reconciliations and all general ledger tasks.
  • Forecasting: You will partner with FP&A to provide financial information to create robust and accurate forecasts and perform regular analysis of variances to plan.
  • Internal Controls: You will lead annual external audits and bi-annual internal audits to successful outcomes. You will maintain and improve the current G3 Internal Control system, implementing best practice to become a Watson-Marlow Group leader in controls.
  • Compliance: You will liaise with the Group Tax team and external tax authorities to provide data to ensure all regulatory compliance in tax reporting.
  • Team Development: As a proven leader of people, you will lead and develop your team to strengthen capability and succession planning.
  • Contract Governance: You will ensure compliance in 3rd party relationships as a knowledge expert on contract process, supported by Group Legal Counsel where required.
  • Data Governance: Your keen attention to detail will help drive the team and wider company in strong data governance around customer and sales data to help ensure accurate financial transactions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Review, analyze and audit all current processes to continuously help the business streamline operations and enhance efficiency in the team.

Who you’ll be working with

  • Finance Team: working closely with the Accounting Operations Manager and FP&A Analyst to keep abreast of all financial operational and forecasting areas.
  • Department Managers: Build strong relationships with Department Heads to understand the business and help foster a good working culture within the organization.
  • The Spirax Group: liaising with Tax, Treasury, Financial Reporting, Internal Controls and Internal Audit to action requirements and understand changes to reporting and requirements.
  • External Audit: Cultivate relationships to create effective communication during audit.

This is what you’ll need to be successful in this role

  • Role includes long periods of sitting at a desk.
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA, CMA, MBA or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
  • Experience working for a publicly traded international company preferred.
  • Proven background of progressive accounting/finance experience in a senior accountant or controller position.
  • History of leading and developing a team of accountants.
  • Proven ability to manage complex financial transactions and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a hands-on approach.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.  
  • Excellent computer skills, including Excel with large ERP experience (Microsoft AX is a plus).
