Spire is a full-service communications firm supporting innovative programs in government, technology, healthcare, and science. We are looking to add a senior-level technical writer to support the Secretary of the Air Force, Concepts Development and Management (SAF/CDM).
Job Summary
You will bring your natural curiosity and ability to learn new technology to draft content in the areas of cybersecurity, cloud architecture, and other technical topics. You will contribute to developing technical documentation for a diverse range of projects, including government services contracts, innovative technology solutions, and advanced R&D initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- You will work closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to gather technical information, clarify requirements, and ensure documentation aligns with both product/solution features and client needs.
- Create and maintain documentation, including developing and updating user manuals, technical guides, API documentation, knowledge base articles, release notes, and R&D technical reports. Ensure clarity, accuracy, and accessibility.
- Simplify complex concepts by translating advanced technical processes, systems, and software features into clear, user-friendly content for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Conduct research to stay informed about CDM's technology capabilities, project requirements, and industry trends.
- Proofread and edit documentation produced by other team members or departments, ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to Air Force style guides.
- Prioritize and manage multiple documentation projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality materials across services and technology domains.
Requirements
- 7 years of experience in technical writing, preferably within government contracting or defense, aerospace, or cybersecurity sectors.
- Demonstrated experience creating technical documentation for government clients, including user manuals, system specifications, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and compliance documentation, is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of technical concepts related to IT systems, software, security protocols, and regulatory compliance standards (e.g., NIST, DFARS, ITAR). Familiarity with the technical language, specifications, and methodologies commonly used in federal contracts is a plus.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and adherence to government-specific documentation standards.
- Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content suitable for both government and contractor stakeholders.
- Proficiency with documentation tools commonly used in government contracting, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and Confluence.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to collaborate effectively with government officials, contractors, and internal teams.
