Description

Orthopaedic & Neurosurgery Specialists (ONS) has an excellent opportunity for a full-time (4/10 hour shifts) Physician Assistant to join its team. The Physician Assistant will provide support to a total joint replacement surgeon. This well-regarded practice is committed to superior clinical outcomes and provides a highly collegial and supportive work environment. ONS is a multi-specialty orthopaedic and neurosurgery practice that has served patients throughout the New York Metropolitan area for more than 20 years. The 35 ONS fellowship trained physicians provide expertise in the full spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, sports medicine, minimally invasive orthopedic, spine and brain surgery, joint replacement, and trauma. ONS provides onsite digital imaging and state-of-the art physical therapy and MRI. ONS also operates a world class AAAHC accredited ASC in Stamford, CT.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs and documents history and physicals of pre-operative patients. Prepares documentation for consent on admit
  • Assists with post-operative checks, including wound evaluations and dressing changes
  • Performs in-office procedures such as cast/splint placements and removals, suture removal and wound care, staple removals, and managing infection
  • Collects and/or prepares samples, such as wound cultures or joint fluid from patients for testing
  • Administers medications, orally or by subcutaneous injection when indicated
  • Renews medications, as needed for patients in office, phone, or electronically
  • Orders X-rays, laboratory tests, physical therapy renewals, CT/MRI and other diagnostic tests as needed
  • Makes post-operative calls to patients at home to check on status when indicated
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens and patient teaching
  • Participates in Urgent Care coverage
  • Participates in rotating PA on call coverage, which includes after hours phone coverage (generous call pay offered)
  • Assists physicians with fluoroscopic epidural injections when needed
  • First assists in all surgeries with attending physicians
  • Assures all films, X-rays, MRIs, etc. are up on monitors prior to surgeries
  • Handles all emergency room consultations and admissions
  • Provides quality in-patient care including rounds, progress notes, dressing changes, and follows lab results
  • Handles post-op orders for all cases covered
  • Coordinates discharge of patient including clinical resume and all other required documentation
  • Office locations in Connecticut include Greenwich, Stamford, and Wilton

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree
  • Connecticut PA license
  • NCCPA Certified
  • DEA and Connecticut Controlled Substances License
  • Minimum one-year orthopedic or surgical experience preferred, new grads invited to apply with an orthopedic surgery rotation
  • Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
